Recipe: Domino's Pizza

This recipe shows the ingredients I used for each pizza, but use whatever you please! Keep in mind that organic ingredients really aren't so pricey when you're only using a little per pizza. You can always freeze the rest!

Ingredients (per pizza):
1 ball Domino's pizza dough
2/3 cup marinara sauce (128 grams)
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella (142 grams)
1 tsp. corn meal (optional)
1/2 tbsp butter (optional)
Pinch of garlic powder (optional)
Pinch of dried parsley, basil or oregano (optional)
Special equipment:
Baking sheets
Pastry brush (optional)
Pizza cutter

-1 1/2 slices ham, cut into 1 inch slices (36 grams)
-2 slices canned pineapple rings, sliced (60 grams)

-1 Italian sausage link, sliced (89 grams)
-1/2 cup chopped onion (40 grams)

-1/2 cup chopped onion (40 grams)
-1/2 cup chopped green pepper (40 grams)
-1/4 cup chopped black olives (33 grams)

Servings: About five (3 slices)
Cost per serving: varies, about $2.25


Preheat the oven to 500F. Cover each baking sheet with foil and sprinkle with about a teaspoon of corn meal (optional, but it helps to keep the dough from sticking to the foil.)

First, prep your toppings. It's much easier to have everything sliced before you get your hands all dough-y. You can even prep each item the day before and store everything mixed together in a container in the fridge.

When the dough is ready (either it has risen for 1-2 hours or has come up to room temperature after being in the fridge) deflate it slightly with your fingers. Pick the dough up and get to work with some pizzaria worker action - you don't have to throw up in the air, but be sure to work it into a uniform round shape before placing it on the foiled sheet. Once you have a good shape, lay the dough on the foil and push it around with your hands until it's about a 12 inches across in diameter.

With the back of a spoon or spatula, spread 2/3 cup marinara sauce onto the dough, leaving about 3/4 inch around the edges for the crust. Add the 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese. Lastly, spread your selected toppings evenly around the pizza.

Bake at 500F for about 15 minutes. While the pizza is baking, melt 1 tablespoon of butter (enough for two pizzas) in a bowl in the microwave, about 30 seconds. Add a pinch of both garlic powder and dried herbs and mix together with a brush.

After the pizza has baked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes. During this time, brush the crust with the garlic butter mixture if desired. Slice into 8 pieces with a pizza cutter and enjoy!
